about

Another byproduct of my few weeks of unemployment in Spring 2019, the inspiration for “Naturally Occurring” came from, simply, nature. One of the reasons my fiancée and I purchased our home in Cherry Hill a year ago was the amazing porch area and backyard. We have such a full, relaxing view of the woods and Cooper River connected creek behind our home, and I wanted to do my best to honor that with music. I also wanted to see if I had what it takes to create an ambient or experimental piece of music without using 100 pedals, synths, or an electric guitar.

To do that, I brought my laptop outside, layered several tracks of improvised malleted acoustic guitar, the bowed Viorror guitar, and played percussion on objects found on my porch. With a touch of reverb, as well as some field recordings for ambience, I hope what comes through is a snapshot of one of the first nice days of Spring 2019 spent outside.

The entire album is meant to be listened to from front to back, as the breaks here into five movements are just for convenience.
