A “Threshold” can have several meanings. Whether it be a point of entry or a certain measurable level that reactions can begin to occur: both read to me as some sort of “beginning.”

You first walk through the threshold of your home to begin your stay there. You can then walk out of it to begin your daily work routine. You can meet your pain threshold to start to feel ache, or chemicals can reach a threshold to begin a reaction.

Regardless of how you interpret it, this was actually the first album (the beginning) I created for this “Ambient August” run of music. Ironic that it is the last one I posted? Sure. Ironic that when I completed this album, almost a year ago, I had no idea it would be part of this project? Double sure. Ironic that my cat Mose is the cover star here and I took this photo the first day we brought him home (another beginning)? 100% yes.

All and all, “Threshold” is the product of a few years of improvised recordings on guitar and synths, with tons of effects and other layers thrown in for good measure. Some of these fragments were to be demos for something else, but I liked the feel of them in their raw and very imperfect state and continued to build and build until they got to where they are now.

As this represents one of the last ambient/experimental albums of new material I plan on releasing for some time- I hope you enjoy it. Does this release symbolize the beginning or my transcending to a new threshold of sound? I guess time will tell.
