about

Improvised and recorded live in one night in late 2018, “The Mess We Made” was created solely using a bass guitar, pedals, and Ableton Live synths and loops. In contrast to other albums in the “Ambient August” project, TMWM plays more like a movie soundtrack in my mind.

Over the four tracks, the album segues from gloomy and pulsing electronica ambience to a more abrasive harsh noise that can ever so suddenly ease its tension, or push the gas on it even more, at any moment. The titles are open to interpretation, and again, could be hinting at subplots of an unwritten film of some sorts. From creation to destruction, the ebbs and flows, and the stillness that lingers at the beginning and end.

Is this all a sound metaphor for the impending doom of Earth? The complexities of a relationship? How we treat our frail, amazing bodies? That is up to the listener. Regardless, it was a pleasure making this record, I am immensely proud of it, and I hope you enjoy listening to it.
