awaken. cold sweats. descending the steps. i stare into the mirror and tell myself: "you're not going to exist one day..." and "what's an 'accomplishment' when we're all just going to turn into dust anyway?" then I throw cold water on my face as it's the only way to sober up from such thoughts. i'm constantly reminding myself to replenish so as not to expire. writing whatever comes to mind to try and clear some of the mess my head left behind. a missed connection with slumber again this time. "getting used to being nothing really numbs you. makes you ripe for worm food. we're all just shoveling dirt out of and then directly back into a hole that never fills. a void."

Winding Way 03:53
Lost mind, befound spirit Resting in place Between punctuation marks What lie below / this crude surface Now requires your devoted service Blind trust in strangers Such a ride / you can be taken for All of the money / In the world Can’t buy you by What keeps you up at Night, your terrors Your insecurities I thought of you in a Winding Way Take us further / from the River Side Repetition of all Prior versions of Yesterday’s paid promises fray Step on through rotted walls of noise and Splintered wooden fences I thought of you in a Winding Way Carried off into the brush Whisked away by the stream Fallen like a brittle leaf Hand and hand in this we lead Bare in our offerings Owned by a bank of disbelief Fulfillment leveraged by The ultimate desires of the heart

Celebrate mediocrity Discourage originality Champion homogeneity Suppress innovative thoughts Find comfort in archetypes Duplicate carbon copies Stay stylishly subversive Nothing new keeps you up at night Exorcise exciting ideals Wretch at tomorrow’s rendition Reject anything uncomfortable The way it was over how it will be Disconnect from all that drives us Pay no attention to the men behind the curtains This is the way we are all headed If we aren’t already there
4.
Levitate towards a headache Represent the stream You create Your home is open in spring Learn to check in with you Find common ground Propose a caption towards which you can Gravitate Call out from the show You're faking sick Too thick a lie you’re Sinking in Freeform and four score and forewarned you bore A hole in your head the size Never seen before Outside of the lines we all agreed to share Drawn last once again At this you stare You were never let up Drowned, fickle, sore Guided by a knot to whose Noose you wore Shivering, cold, vacant glare Thrown up, blurred out, alone And scared
5.
Life is about learning to lie Through your teeth Never to dream too high or Shudder with disbelief For we are all Kings until we realize Our crowns are made of plastic Decorated in lies Day in and day out we Break our backs for dimes While the rest of the world feels free To chime in Like they know us Like we owe them Life is about learning to come to grips with you Never taking it too seriously You’ll never make it through For we’re all human and one day we realize Everything we know in our little plastic lives Is a Lie
6.
We gave our hands for those who were damned over-caffeinated. overworked. wound tight. dead flickering light. purple halogen illuminates digital inkwells. the silence is breadwinning. nerves pull triggers, they don't squeeze. in the background the amateur states: "i feel, therefore I am right." i'm overwhelmed with too much mortality for one week. (sometimes I feel like a reptile, and sometimes like a man sometimes i feel like kicking the shit out of myself again and again)
7.
there was a man who never gave thought to the quality of man he was or would become or legacy he would leave behind. he never once felt guilty about keeping things from his children or his lover or his friends. he never gave thought to what others might think if he cried. he knew not and didn't care, of the things society deemed as masculine. how they dressed, acted, ate, thought, worked, or loved as. he wanted, without a thought of what others would say or punish him with for such behaviors. that man is fictional. from no time nor place. he is just an element of an idea i have expressed without giving a thought to what it may actually mean.

about

Looking to further blur the lines between not only genres but artforms, N.E. Hertzberg returns with his latest album, a collection of poems set to sound, "There Are Stories Other Than Yours" on the Wet Cassettes imprint.

Through a culmination of sound collage and spoken word poetry written about self-deceit (Little Plastic Lives), health issues (Migraine Moments), first-time home ownership (Winding Way), learning to write in/for our modern culture (White Men's Shoes) and more, the author addresses the struggles we deal with in ourselves but attempts to connect them to the greater picture in life.

Vocals appear here for the first time in years on a solo record, in a direct and distorted manner. The words spill over a bed of static-laden cassette loops, field recordings, and drones and are accompanied by improvised, cut-up guitar dirges and thunderously repetitive, pulsing bass tracks.

Ultimately, one quote, which can be found on the cassette version's inner J-card design, best sums up the idea behind the album:

“Poetry is the one place where people can speak their original human mind. It is the outlet for people to say in public what is known in private."

-Allen Ginsberg
